My First Week in EME 2040

What I Desire to Learn Through this Class

    Through this class, I hope to learn how to effectively use technology, both old and new, in order to aid my students' learning. I hope to understand technology and its uses better, and to develop a new-found appreciation for the craft. I hope to discover new types of technology, and to get practice with using it for educational purposes. Overall, I just hope to become a better educator through this class.


My Prior Experience with Tech in the Classroom

    As a child of the 2000s generation, technology is synonymous in the classroom. Through elementary school, we did not have access to tech inside the classroom, but we payed frequent visits to the computer classroom. As a student I had experience with multiple online learning tools such as I-Ready and Aleks, but also had exposure to online assignments and promethean boards. From the eyes of an educator however, I've had experience using educational videos, powerpoint, and other software to ease the "pain" of going to school on Sundays.


My Personal Learning Network (PLN)

    My personal learning network consists of six main strands: my family, my church, my past teachers, my current teachers, my mentors, and instagram. Each of them helps me grow as an educator in their own way, but together they help me become the best version of myself possible. My family provides me with mental support through tough times, and we have a few educators in my family as well. The people in my church, and the teachings it provides, keep me going and teach me how to be me. My past teachers provide me with an outlook into what my future will look like, while my current teachers provide me with all the knowledge I will need to succeed. My mentors help me stay on task and grow, allowing me to grow not only as an educator, but as a person. Instagram provides me with information and ideas for my future classroom. My PLN is ever-growing and I can't wait to see where it will be when I finally start teaching.

    Hi! I love that you want to be an educator because I do too. I agree that this class will definitely prepare us to be educators and I also hope this class will spark my interest in educational technologies. I found it interesting that you used Aleks and I-Ready in school because I have never heard of those programs before. As for your PLN, I also have church in my PLN, I wonder if we go to the same one here in Tallahassee!

    Hi Megan,
    I geniunely love your true and geniune excitement for learning and gaining knoweldge for tools to help you in your future classroom. I love that you are ready to build upon your current knowledge with the tools you have previously used. I also love that your personal learning network is very diverse with things like family to instgram. I believe that a sound pln is extremely helpful for your sucess.

 Blog Post #4: Standards, Educator Toolkit, and Assignment 1 Standards The new standards when it comes to computer education that will be implemented in 2025 are important but a little bit daunting for educators who might not have grown up in the digital age. Even for me, a gen z "screen-ager", this shift brings about some hard feelings. However, upon reading the standards, I can definitely say that I am a little bit more at ease. I hope to teach somewhere between kindergarten and third grade, and these standards tend to be laying the foundation for the hard-core computing that is to come later, so in some ways, my educating of my students is the most important.
