Blog Journal #5: AI, PLN, Digital Divide, and Collaborative Writing and Social Annotation
Artificial Intelligence within the Classroom Setting
I believe that there are both advantages and disadvantages to using AI within a K-12 setting. For example, using AI to create last minute lesson plans every once in a while or to create an image for a presentation are honorable ways to incorporate AI into the classroom. However, there are dangers to using AI in the classroom setting, such as cheating and academic dishonesty. I believe that if we teach students at a young age the appropriate uses for AI technology, they would be able to use it effectively in the classroom in an honest way.
Personal Learning Network Update
I'd like to preface this with the fact that I do not use social media very often, so this is an area where I might be lacking a bit in my educational career. I've mostly been using Instagram to communicate with other educators and to learn about the world of teaching. An educator that I take a lot of inspiration from is Mr. Luke. He is an Australian kindergarten educator and the way he runs his classroom is very efficient and fun, and is something I would like to emulate in my classroom.
Digital Divide
I grew up in a third world country in a household where we had no technology, including no televisions. My school, while being the best school in the area and a private school, had limited technology access and we were not introduced to projectors until we were in third grade. I was not very technologically literate when I moved to the US, but once I was granted access to technology, I was able to teach myself how to use it, and took advantage of all the opportunities my school provided me with to learn about it. I believe my middle school and high school experiences adequately prepared me for how to use technology within a collegiate setting.
Collaborative Writing and Social Annotation
I quite like collaborative writing and social annotation tools. I believe they foster creativity and an appreciation for group work. I would definitely use these tools within my lessons to allow that understanding of group work to grow within my classroom. I would probably use google docs, diigo, and padlet to achieve this. Since I am going to teach the younger students, they would definitely be engaged in a lesson about technology and it would help them soak up the information better and quicker.
