Blog Journal 8: Web Design, QR codes, and Ethical Technology Use
Web Design
The web design assignment was the most fun one so far. It was very challenging, as I had not done it before, but it was very fulfilling to see the finished product. I used a lot of elements within my website design. I used a lot of spacers, which was a learning curve for sure. I used this in order to make sure I adhered to the CRAP principle of design. I also used a couple of different forms of uploading pictures, such as the images element and the slideshow element. I used these to display images that would add to the website or article.

QR Codes
A creative way to use QR codes within the classroom could be for an assignment where students learn about different animals and their habitats. Each QR code could lead them to a page showing them fun facts about the animal and where they live. Students would have to have access to their own screen, or screens in groups, which could be a limitation of this assignment. This would work well with the grade level that I am hoping to teach, kindergarten, because the students would definitely be entertained by being able to use screens in a controlled environment.
Ethical Technology Use
Chat GPT: How do you balance the need for technology in the classroom with the concerns of parents and the potential negative impacts on child development? Should you continue using the tablets as part of the curriculum or limit screen time in favor of more traditional, hands-on activities?
The best way to balance it is to not heavily rely on technological use within the classroom. Using technology to supplement lessons rather than using the technology completely within the lesson would be a happy medium. Limiting the screen time students are exposed to helps students foster interpersonal connections while still learning with new age instruments. This is not to say that using traditional methods is bad, because they also have their times within the classroom.

I love your website! Everything follows the CRAP principle and is very organized and user friendly! Every section is very clearly labeled and there aren't many distracting features like excess fonts or colors; great job!
ReplyDeleteYour website is great! I love how fun and interactive you made the first page with the little monkey picture. It definitely feels like something that would be presented to a kindergarten class. You follow the CRAP principles very well. There is a variety of Repetition, mixed in with some contrast and alignment. The proximity makes sense, and everything is well organized together.
ReplyDeleteHi Megan! I really like the banner of your website, the monkey is adorable and definitely a good way of calling the attention of viewers. Your website was easy to navigate and the information was easy to read. I would recommend for next time to make it a little more colorful as it makes more sense for a kindergarten class. Overall, amazing work!
ReplyDeleteHello Meghan, I was quite impressed with your introductory banner (fits your target demographic well), did you create it yourself? Many of the slides follow the principle of contrast and alignment closely, and you've even included hyperlinks to other designs you've made. The "powered by weebly" logo is also surprising to me because I've not seen it in other people's website. Overall, a professionally done webpage which really goes beyond the requirements of this assignment, showcasing mastery of web design features.
